Tokologo Local Municipality is one of the municipalities in the Free State Province that relies on underground water for its daily water supply.
The Municipality is in the process of improving its potable water supply by constructing a new 4.5 mega litre per day (Ml/d) water treatment works to treat the existing raw water supply from the Vaal River near Riverton. Furthermore a construction of a 1.5Ml balancing tank at the proposed Water Treatment Works (WTW), construction of 24Ml raw water storage dam will be part of phase 2. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.
The purpose of the project is to implement an appropriate bulk water service infrastructure supply system for a population of about 8509 in Boshof/Seretse. The bulk water scheme should be sustainable and will address both social as well as economic needs and requirements of the residents.
This is good effort to show partnership in all three spheres of government in order to improve service delivery in communities. Water has no substitute and cuts across all spheres.
The Department of Water and Sanitation together with the municipality are working tirelessly to provide services to the communities that are hard hit by drought.
