The implementation of a consolidated Ngaka Modiri Molema water master plan agreed upon with the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) comprising a number of priority water projects in the district municipality is progressing well.
This master plan identified a number of projects with timelines for areas in different local municipalities (LMs), to eradicate basic water backlogs. These are emergency projects and two long-term capital projects – the Mahikeng Bulk Water Supply and Ratlou Master Plan projects.
The Mahikeng capital project involves the upgrading of the Mmabatho Water Treatment Works which will augment the bulk water supply to Mahikeng and its peri-urban villages. The plant capacity is being increased from 20 to 30 Ml per day.
In Ratlou, Sedibeng is set to construct a new 5,5 mega litres concrete storage reservoir at Thutlwane, drilling new boreholes, erecting pump houses, refurbishing and equipping existing boreholes, installing water meters and laying a pipeline for delivering potable water.
Sedibeng Water has also appointed a contractor to complete the Mahikeng South Regional Bulk Water Supply Scheme to help meet water demand in Majemantsho, Setlopo and Lomanyaneng villages. The project includes the laying of pipes, construction of a pump station and several storage tanks.
Ngaka Modiri is in the process of implementing a number of other projects in Tswaing, Ditsobotla, Ramotshere Moiloa and Ratlou local municipalities.
