The Nelson Mandela Museum in partnership with the National Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture, Provincial Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, O.R. Tambo District Municipality, and King Sabata Dalindyebo Local Municipality will celebrate International Mandela Month through the Unveiling of the two Statues of Nelson Mandela and a handing over of a Library. This year’s Nelson Mandela International Day will be celebrated under the theme: “It is in Your Hands.”

Members of the media are hereby invited to the unveiling ceremony of the two statues will be done by the President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa at the Nelson Mandela Museum, Bhunga building in Mthatha and Nelson Mandela Museum Youth and Heritage Centre in Qunu. The two statues of Nelson Mandela will resemble Nelson Mandela as a Statesman and the while the other as a traditionalist. The unveiling will take place on the 18th of July 2023.

On the 18th of July, the museum and Department will further hand-over a library at Zingisa Comprehensive High School as part of “Making a Difference” in the community. The planned International Mandela Day activities will kickstart with an International Mandela Day Public Lecture at the Nelson Mandela Museum Youth and Heritage Centre in Qunu. The public lecture will be held on the 17th of July 2023 where the Minister of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa will be in attendance.  

Media is also invited to be part of the breakfast session and to have an opportunity to engage the Museum on latest developments.
