The South African Policing Union feels the latest development surrounding former acting national police commissioner Khomotso Phahlane is a golden opportunity for him to clear his name.
The controversy has taken too long. It has also dragged the good name of the SAPS. Without getting into the merits or demerits of the charges that the General is facing, the reality is that they are of a serious nature.
It is a shame that the downfall of the recent national commissioners of the SAPS comes from corruption. Incidents like these demoralise functionary members on the ground. SAPU is of the view that General Phahlane will use the correct platform to clear his name rather the ineffective media charm offensive that he was using.
The courts are the best platform to clear his name once and for all. We call upon law abiding citizens to allow the law to take its course without fear or favour.
