The South African Policing Union joins millions of peace loving South Africans in expressing its shock, dismay and shock at the violent attack on a Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department officer allegedly by a group of an unruly crowd that claims to be congregants of a Johannesburg Christian Church. We fall short of words to express our dismay at this unchristian conduct of those people who attacked the official for simple doing his job.

We are on record stating that South Africa is an extremely violent society, this action by the alleged Christians vindicates our view.  If people who claim to be Christian behave like this coming out from a church service, heavens help us we are in serious trouble. We would expect that Christians are law abiding citizens and if there is any conflict around them it should be resolved amicably.

SAPU calls upon the City of Johannesburg not to allow lawlessness and civil disobedience by engaging with people like these. It is only through the law that they must engage these kinds of citizens. The violent attacks on the men and women in blue should be condemned by all law abiding citizens with the strongest terms possible.  Those arrested should face the full might of the law. There is absolutely no justification for such barbaric behaviour.
