Gauteng will play host to the fifteenth BRICS Summit in August, under the theme ‘BRICS and Africa: Partnership For Mutually Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development, and Inclusive Multilateralism’.
This was confirmed by Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele.
He said following the success of the Meetings Africa 2023 event, the province will now showcase its "world-class facilities to international, regional and local dignitaries”.
An increase in trade between the five member countries - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - is an imperative and high on the agenda of the provincial government.
“South Africa is seeing a steady increase in its trade with the BRICS countries and this bodes well for local industries and economic recovery prospects,” said Gauteng Tourism Authority spokesperson Barba Gaoganediwe.
Gauteng Tourism said some of the benefits to hosting the event in Gauteng included convenient airports, highway networks, connectivity and access to accommodation.
“There is no doubt that the high-profile delegates attending the summit will have a memorable and authentic African experience rooted in the country’s exceptional mecca,” said Gauteng Tourism Authority CEO Sthembiso Dlamini.
