ActionSA’s bid to get Ekurhuleni Mayor Sivuyile Ngodwana out of office was a success on Thursday, after council removed him in a motion of no confidence.

Ngodwana, a member of the African Independent Congress, was voted out 47 to 32. The African National Congress (ANC) and the Democratic Alliance did not vote.

Ngodwana became mayor in a coalition agreement between the ANC and Economic Freedom Fighters.

Calls for his removal have been growing as a result of complaints of lacking service delivery in the municipality.

Council will vote for a new mayor after seven days.
