The Democratic Alliance (DA) is seriously concerned by the lack of political Leadership in the City of Ekurhuleni as the ANC/EFF proxy mayor, Ald Sivuyile Ngodwana continues to fail the people of Ekurhuleni.

At the recent council meeting, the DA climbed into the Executive Mayor for his continued reshuffle and new appointments of board members in the Ekurhuleni Housing Company (EHC) which is severely affecting the entity’s performance.

The EHC is in a state of collapse with the Executive Mayor and his Board Members having no clear plan to achieve its mandate. The positions of CEO and CFO are yet to be filled – contributing to the poor performance of the entity.

The EHC for the Fourth quarter of 2022/2023 collected 27%, for the first quarter of this financial year they collected 23% and second quarter they collected 20%.

The dismal performance of the EHC needs to be placed at the Mayor’s doorstep. The Board Members are having numerous meetings at huge financial costs to the city but we are yet to see the improvements needed to turn the entity around.

If one looks at the first quarter, the entity exceeded its budget by R278 050 due to the in-committee meeting and again in this quarter the board exceeded its budget by R 55 418 due to ad hoc meetings.

The DA demands action by the Executive Mayor, the time for talk shops are over, the EHC needs to be turned into an functioning entity.
