Gigaba signs Financial Intelligence Centre Amendment Act
Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba signed and gazetted various provisions of the Financial Intelligence Centre Amendment Act, National Treasury said yesterday.
Commenting on the signing of the Act, Minister Gigaba said it was critical for government to accelerate the implementation of the Act as it demonstrated government’s commitment to the fight against corruption, money laundering and illicit flows.
Treasury said President Jacob Zuma signed the FIC Amendment Act into law on April 26 and gazetted the Act on May 2, but the determination of the commencement date was left to Gigaba.
Nqakula says ANC must be able to criticise itself
The ANC must be able to criticise itself, says former Defence Minister Charles Nqakula.
Nqakula was speaking at the launch of his book, titled 'The People’s War: Reflections of an ANC cadre', at the Castle of Good Hope.
He said that the ANC had always been an organisation that had allowed its members to criticise itself but in the end finds common ground to move forward from.
SA must get its house in order
South Africa needs to get its own house in order before it can lead the continent in achieving the AU's Agenda 2063, MPs have heard during a debate on Africa Day.
MPs across the spectrum agreed that South Africa needed to play the leading role in moving the continent forward, but opposition parties said the country was losing its grip due to domestic problems.
United Democratic Movement’s Nqabayomzi Kwankwa said Africa needed to consider its proposals carefully before adoption, so that programmes like Agenda 2063 don't join the list of failures.
