From South Africa to Kenya, leading African law firm Bowmans is picking up accolades for its merger and acquisition (M&A) expertise on the continent.
At the DealMakers Africa awards ceremony held in Nairobi last night, Bowmans scooped awards in five out of six categories for its work in East Africa during 2018. This follows hot on the heels of a strong showing at the South African DealMakers awards earlier this month and the announcement that the firm had topped Mergermarket’s league tables for M&A in Africa in 2018.
The firm was named top legal adviser in M&A for both deal flow and value, top legal adviser in General Corporate Finance for both transaction flow and value, and advised on the Deal of the Year (the Rubis Energie takeover of KenolKobil).
At the DealMakers South Africa awards on 19 February 2019, Bowmans placed first for deal flow and third for deal value in the General Corporate Finance category. In addition, the firm took third place for deal value and fourth for deal flow in the M&A category.
According to Mergermarket results released earlier in the year, Bowmans was the top ranked legal adviser in Africa, by deal value and second by deal count in the Africa league tables, and third by deal count for legal advisors in the Middle East & Africa.
Bowmans has also been recognised in 32 practice areas and jurisdictions (19 in Band 1) in the 2019 edition of Chambers Global: The World’s Leading Business Lawyers, which was released earlier this month. In addition, 71 lawyers from across the firm have achieved 86 individual rankings, up from 67 lawyers who achieved 79 individual rankings in 2018.
Robert Legh, chairperson and senior partner says, “We are thrilled with these results! They’re evidence of the complex transactions our clients are entrusting us with as well as our ability to deliver an outstanding service across the continent.”
