Pre-eminent African law firm Bowmans has strengthened its tax services offering and capacity in East Africa with the appointment of Terry Muli as head of Transfer Pricing in Kenya from 1 June 2026. Terry will be based in Nairobi.

Terry's appointment comes at a time of growing client demand for specialised international tax and transfer pricing support services, driven by the increasing complexity of Kenya's tax laws. This is especially in respect of cross border-related party transactions.

The Kenya Revenue Authority’s (KRA) International Tax Office has been intensifying audit scrutiny of multinationals, with transfer pricing issues now featuring in virtually every significant tax audit. This scrutiny follows enhanced transfer pricing regulations, the introduction of country-by-country reporting obligations, Base Erosion and Profit Shifting adoption by Kenya, and the Advance Pricing Agreements Regulations.

Terry will lead this area of focus as an international tax and transfer pricing specialist with significant experience gained over a decade of advising multinational entities across East Africa. She has advised businesses on structuring cross-border transactions, transfer pricing policy and documentation, benchmarking, intercompany agreements, transfer pricing health checks, intellectual property valuations, advance pricing agreements advisory, and transfer pricing audit defence/ dispute support.

Terry will join Bowmans' existing Tax Practice, co-headed by Alex Mathini, partner and head of Tax Advisory, and Andrew Oduor, partner and head of Tax Disputes.

Paras Shah, managing partner of Bowmans in Kenya, says: 'I am very pleased to welcome Terry to the firm. Terry’s specialised expertise will be invaluable to our clients navigating this increasingly complex tax environment. Our enhanced Tax Practice will work closely with our Transfer Pricing experts in our offices across Africa, offering specialist cross-border services to our clients operating throughout the continent.
