London serves as a major financial, commercial, cultural and political hub, hosting the headquarters of numerous multinational corporations, financial institutions and international organisations. The City of London, often called the Square Mile, forms the historic core and remains one of the world's foremost financial districts alongside Canary Wharf. London is home to four UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Tower of London and the Palace of Westminster, and attracts millions of tourists annually. The city's economy is diverse, spanning finance, professional services, technology, media, tourism and creative industries, with a gross regional product exceeding £500-billion a year. London is also a major centre for the global gemstone and precious metals trade, with historic links to diamond trading in Hatton Garden and bullion markets.
