Elon Musk
Elon Musk is a South African-born entrepreneur and business magnate who serves as chief executive of Tesla, the electric vehicle manufacturer, and SpaceX, the aerospace company. He is also owner of X (formerly Twitter), the social media platform he acquired in 2022. Musk holds citizenship in South Africa, Canada and the US, and is based in Texas. He co-founded PayPal in the late 1990s before founding SpaceX in 2002 and joining Tesla in 2004, where he became chief executive in 2008. His business interests span electric vehicles, battery storage, solar energy, space exploration, satellite internet through Starlink, neural technology through Neuralink, and tunnelling through The Boring Company. Musk is one of the world's wealthiest individuals, with his net worth closely tied to Tesla's share price. He recurs in business coverage for Tesla's expansion into new markets, SpaceX's launch contracts and satellite deployments, his public statements on technology and policy, and his influence on cryptocurrency and equity markets. Musk has advocated for sustainable energy, artificial intelligence regulation and human settlement of Mars. He studied physics and economics at the University of Pennsylvania before moving to California, where he briefly attended Stanford University before launching his first company, Zip2, in 1995.
