Barcelona
Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and Spain's second-largest city, located on the Mediterranean coast in the north-east of the country. With a population of about 1.6-million in the city proper and more than five-million in the metropolitan area, it serves as a major economic and cultural hub for southern Europe. The city is a leading centre for commerce, tourism, education, media and the arts, and its port is one of the busiest in the Mediterranean. Barcelona's economy is highly diversified, with strengths in manufacturing, logistics, technology, finance and creative industries. Tourism plays a significant role, driven by the city's architectural heritage, beaches and cultural attractions. The retail and commercial property sectors are well developed, with numerous shopping centres, high streets and mixed-use developments serving both residents and visitors. Barcelona is also a key gateway for international investment in Spanish real estate. The city has a long history as a trading port and industrial centre, and it gained global prominence after hosting the 1992 Summer Olympics, which spurred extensive urban regeneration and infrastructure development.
