As part of her responsibilities with regard to the implementation of Section 100(1)(b) of the Constitution in the Limpopo Department of Roads and Transport, the Minister of Transport, Honourable Dipuo Peters on Monday, 2 September 2013 visited Limpopo Province and met with the Premier, Mr Stan Mathabatha, the MEC for Roads and Transport Mr Lehlogonolo Masoga as well as the Board of Directors and staff members of Roads Agency Limpopo (RAL). The purpose of the meetings was to get an understanding of governance challenges at RAL that were brought to her attention in the reports and briefings.
 
Upon return to Pretoria the Minister again met the RAL Board of Directors on Wednesday 4 September to discuss a way forward in stabilizing the agency.
 
Three Board members tendered their resignations on Wednesday, 11 July 2013. With only two out of seven members remaining, the Board no longer constitutes a quorum and is therefore dysfunctional. It will not be able to discharge its responsibilities in terms of the applicable legislation.
 
As such the Minister has taken a decision to dissolve what was left of the Board. The Minister has also thanked the members who resigned voluntarily for putting the interest of the Organisation and the people of Limpopo before their own interests.
 
In the absence of a Board of Directors the Minister becomes the Accounting Authority during the period of the Section 100 intervention. She has since delegated this authority to the Administrator of the provincial Department of Roads and Transport until a new Board is appointed or the Section 100 intervention is called off, whichever comes first.
