The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate hereby advises the public and business entities of roadworks along Bolt Avenue, Kestrel Close and Racecourse Road between Montague Drive and Omuramba Road in Montague Gardens. The work is planned to take place from Wednesday, 30 August 2023, until Wednesday, 27 September 2023 between 07:30 to 24:00 and 00:00 to 07:30, Monday to Friday with possible weekend work between 07:30 and 17:00. The resurfacing of Bolt Avenue, Kestrel Close and Racecourse Road entails the removal of existing asphalt surfacing and replacing it with a new 50mm-thick asphalt surfacing layer. Precast concrete kerbs will be replaced as certain sections of the roads and all road markings removed will be reinstated.

Traffic moving in both directions will be affected and congestion is expected as there will be partial road closures. Flag personnel will direct traffic through temporary detours around the work area. It is recommended that road users consider alternative routes. 

‘This work forms part of our regular maintenance to prolong the longevity of the City’s road network in this key industrial area. I am certain that residents and businesses in the area will be quite pleased with the smooth road surface outcomes. For the time being, I urge all who will be making use of this road to please exercise caution and adhere to temporary road signs until the work is complete,’ said Councillor Rob Quintas, the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport.
