Police raid on the offices of Cape Town MMC Malusi Booi

Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis

I have learned with alarm, upon confirmation by Executive Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis just after 8pm last night, of yesterday’s raid by, apparently, the Commercial Branch of the South African Police Service, on the offices of the City of Cape Town MMC (Member of the Mayoral Committee) for Housing, Malusi Booi.

Details are scarce and sketchy, and I am presently enquiring into the matter and therefore I will hold back a comprehensive statement until the facts, context, and investigation details are better known to me.

For the moment I confirm that the Western Cape Government, the Department of Infrastructure, the Western Cape DA, and all of the combined arms of government in the Western Cape, unreservedly condemn any and all irregular and illegal influences upon the execution of good governance.

The impact of criminality on governance is a South African endemic which the Western Cape and DA governments everywhere have managed to curtail, if not eradicate. Any indication that criminality may have forced itself on any aspect of governance in the Western Cape will be aggressively investigated and will be met with the full force of both the law and DA good governance discipline.

I shall communicate developments, and progress with the investigation into the scope of the raid as I learn more in the hours and days to come.

I assure the people of the Western Cape, and of the City of Cape Town, that criminality will not derail the provision of houses, where the DA in the Western Cape leads all provinces. I assure the people of the Western Cape, and of the City of Cape Town, that criminality will not derail good governance. The DA, and the Western Cape Government will act decisively and swiftly to meet every challenge posed by criminals.
