The National Freedom Party (NFP) in KwaZulu-Natal has called for the full implementation of the Moerane Commission of Enquiry findings into the killing of politicians in the province.

The party noted that the commission was founded to investigate and report on the underlying causes of the murders, and to curb the number of deaths associated with the political violence.

Further, the commission also sought to make recommendations on the appropriate actions to be taken to prevent future incidents of murder and attempted murder involving politicians, ensuring that the perpetrators of these crimes are successfully prosecuted.

“It is, therefore, for this reason the NFP wishes to engage and pursue the MEC of Cogta [Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs] together with the Premier of the Province Nomusa Dube-Ncube to make a formal member statement in the provincial legislature and further open it for a debate in the provincial legislature, more especially on the proposed solutions that all security/bodyguards outsourced undergo thorough vetting to ensure that they complied with PsiRA requirements to avoid thuggery in municipal payrolls,” said NFP provincial secretary Zandile Myeni.

The NFP has motivated for thorough vetting procedures by outsourced security companies ensuring that the legal requirements for security personnel are met.

“NFP believes that thorough vetting and the setting of tight control from the legal system will assist in removing many of the thugs,” Myeni said.
