NEHAWU and the workers of Parliament, in general, welcome the statement released by Parliament distancing the institution from the malicious allegations contained in the Sunday Times article, published on 13 August 2017 against the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Ms. Thandi Modise. 

The statement gave credence to our long-held view that the Chairperson of the NCOP is a highly principled and a leader of impeccable character.

She remains a pillar of strength and the embodiment of moral and ethical leadership.  In this regard, she will never do anything that seeks to tarnish the standing and image of Parliament.

The article is shallow as it is devoid of any factual and policy violation, as the Presiding Officer does not have jurisdiction to determine her own benefits including subsistence and travel allowance.

The unfounded allegations have all the hallmarks of the sinister forces inside and outside Parliament, who are threatened by her strong stance against corruption and maladministration in Parliament.

The allegations seek to tarnish the good name of the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, Mama Thandi Modise to advance narrow political interests.

As NEHAWU we encourage her to remain strong and to continue with her sterling work of unearthing and rooting out corruption and maladministration in Parliament.
