Nasi Ispani: ActionSA to File Appeal to Gain Access to Lesufi’s Ill-Fated Jobs Scheme

15th November 2023

ActionSA will file an appeal in terms of the Promotion of Access to Information Act (PAIA) following the Gauteng Provincial Government’s decision to deny the public access to employment records of every individual hired through the fatally flawed Nasi Ispani job hiring scheme.

We have maintained and reiterated consistently that the hiring scheme is a mere PR stunt led by Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, to campaign and secure votes for the ANC through the abuse of state resources.

Panyaza and the province should be willing to disclose the relevant information that is of public interest and concern, especially if they continue to assert that they have nothing to hide.

At a time when youth unemployment is at its highest in the province at 63.9%, it is unconscionable for the Gauteng Government and ruling party to abuse the scheme for nefarious political ends.

The very same government that is leading this hiring scheme is responsible for the millions of people seeking jobs.

ActionSA believes in promoting economic prosperity by providing innovative solutions that would promote and encourage the employment of many young people to get them off the streets and generate the necessary economic activity in South Africa.

When ActionSA takes over as government after next year’s elections, we will ensure that the livelihoods of millions improve, and the years of economic damage caused by the ruling government is addressed in an ethical manner that is solely based on promoting economic growth.
