The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) has echoed the calls by several parties and affirmed its long-held position that the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature should relocate to a state-of-the-art facility in Ulundi.

These calls come as a result of a proposal to develop a government precinct in Pietermaritzburg at a cost of R6.8-billion.

“Our wish is that the billions earmarked for this project should instead be directed to areas of greatest need, to make a dent in the poverty that so many of our people find themselves in,” said IFP president Velenkosini Hlabisa.

The party labelled the development of a new precinct as a waste of taxpayer money.

“We are concerned it will be used as an opportunity to enrich connected companies, by awarding tenders under the guise of building a new legislature precinct,” Hlabisa said.
