Happening in Parliament This Week

The National Council of Provinces (NCOP) kicks off its third term program this week with delegates to the House scheduled to hold Questions for Oral Reply with Ministers from the Governance Cluster 3a (Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and Public Service and Administration) on Tuesday and 3b (Minister in the Presidency: Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities and Minister in The Presidency (Governance)) on Wednesday.

Questions to the Executive is one of the tools that Parliament uses to hold the Executive to account on service delivery matters.

The National Assembly is scheduled to resume its program on 15 August, however one of its committees, Committee for Section 194 Enquiry, is at work probing Adv Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s fitness to hold office as the Public Protector of the Republic of South Africa.

Select Committee on Trade and Industry, Economic Development, Small Business Development, Tourism, Employment and Labour, Presentation by Trade Law Centre (Tralac) to share insights in relation to the work of the World Trade Organisation (WTO). The presentation is expected to take the audience from brief theory into practice in terms of trade policy and law within the context of the WTO and its implication to the African Continent. Further, the presentation would also cover current policy developments, and the future of the WTO. In addition, the briefing is expected to cover how Parliament through its committees could effectively play its oversight role in relation to trade and investment related issues over the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition.]

Select Committee on Public Enterprises and Communication, Briefing by Transnet on measures to expand capacity to meet market demands for freight and ports.
