The African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal reiterates its commitment to work with rural communities to ensure access to running water as this is a basic need for human life.

In this regard, ANC deployees in various spheres of government are working in an integrated manner to assist rural communities.

For too long, the community of Ohaleni, Ndatshane and Hoqo - Ward 16 and 18 - have been without access to running water. They have taken upon themselves to turn around the situation by erecting a water pipeline network to serve the community.

Throwing their weight behind this community water initiative,  ANC Provincial Chair Siboniso Duma, Provincial Deputy Secretary Cde Sipho Hlomuka and Cde Jomo Sibiya, PEC Member and Special Advisor President Cyril Ramaphosa have made available TLB equipment, water pipes and other necessary tools required by the community.

As ANC leaders, they are demonstrating that irrespective of the fact that Nquthu Local Municipality is under the IFP, they understand that access to water knows no political boundaries. They also demonstrating that the ANC is the only party with the capacity to unite communities behind a common objective.

Moving forward, after consultation with Cde Senzo Mchunu, in his capacity as the Minister for Water and Sanitation and his deputy David Mahlobo,  there are plans for the local community members of Nquthu to form a water association.

The association will ensure their integration into the entire value chain of the management and delivery of water.

This in line with the resolution of ANC Provincial Lekgotla held in February to radically champion the delivery of water services in a manner that ensures ownership of the water infrastructure by the community.

Therefore we support Cde Jomo Sibiya in his effort to ensure that the local community of Nquthu is part of decision making processes in the corridors of power – especially regarding water management.
