No word yet on interim Eskom CEO as Ngubane resigns as chair

Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown has announced that Ben Ngubane has resigned as nonexecutive director and chairperson of the Eskom board with immediate effect.

Brown said that to ensure continuity at Eskom, she decided to appoint Zethembe Khoza as interim chairperson until she is able to take new board appointments to Cabinet for approval.

Eskom’s annual general meeting is scheduled to take place on June 23 and the Minister indicated previously that the board will be "rotated" at that meeting.

Brown made no announcement, however, about who would be appointed interim CEO, after the controversial decision to reappoint Brian Molefe was rescinded at the end of May.

MKMVA wants Mabuza as ANC's Deputy President

The Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans’ association wants Mpumalanga premier David Mabuza to be second in command to Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma when the party elects new leadership in December.

It also wants Free State premier Ace Magashule in the party's top six as secretary general.

Current Secretary General Gwede Mantashe has said he is stepping down after ten years in the position.

It is widely expected that the ANC Youth League will also make a similar call following its National Executive meeting this past weekend.

DA and Zille reach settlement

The Democratic Alliance and Western Cape Premier Helen Zille have reached a settlement over her controversial remarks about colonialism.

Zille is expected to apologise unreservedly to the nation at a media conference in Johannesburg today.

She will remain as premier of the Western Cape, but will no longer participate in any DA activity.
