DA: Statement by Khume Ramulifho, DA Gauteng Spokesperson on Education, calls on Education MEC to intervene in lack of Tshwane scholar transport (12/07/2013)

The DA in Gauteng calls for Gauteng Education MEC Barbara Creecy to ensure that scholar transport is provided to learners who walk more than 5km to and from their schools.

The DA has written to the Department with a list of leaners battling to go to school due to a lack of scholar transport.

The DA believes that all learners must be at school next week when schools open for the 3rd term.

Learners experiencing scholar transport problems are from the Malusi Informal settlement. They travel to Attredgeville as their parents were relocated in December after school admission. Learners from Hamanskraal also have scholar transport problems.

These problems result in the learners being unable to go to school and in the end they drop out and sit at home.

Urgent interventions are required to solve this problem. It is regrettable that weak leadership at district levels are compromising the future of our learners.
