DA congratulates North West Matric Class of 2023

The DA congratulates the North West Matric Class of 2023 on passing their matric examinations. Matriculants had to overcome great challenges to reach this achievement. We celebrate them and wish them great success in their future endeavours.

We acknowledge the efforts of all dedicated teachers, parents and caregivers, who all went to great lengths to support matriculants during the year.

The North West improved on matric passes from 2022, moving from fifth place to fourth, achieving a 81,63% pass rate. However, the focus must shift from the number of passes to the quality of passes.

More must be done to ensure that all learners enjoy the support they need to see them write and pass their matric examinations.

North West learners have to endure poor conditions such as dilapidated school infrastructure, asbestos buildings, pit toilets, and an unreliable scholar transport system.

In December 2023, following a DA complaint, the Human Rights Commission released a scathing report against the North West Department of Education, issuing certain directives to the department to prioritise school infrastructure in schools such as Promosa High School and Lesedi High School.  A report the DA will strongly monitor to ensure its implementation.
