DA calls on Polokwane Municipality to act following another preventable death at Ivypark reservoir

The DA has written to the Municipal Manager for Polokwane Local Municipality (PLM), Ramakuntwane Selepe, to immediately erect a fence around the elevated reservoir in Ivypark, Extension 34.

Local residents were shocked to learn about the death of yet another community member who was fatally injured after jumping from the top of the elevated reservoir on Saturday.

This is not an isolated incident. The first fatality at this reservoir occurred on 11 October 2020.

The reservoir was built in 2011 and since December 2011 the DA made several requests to the municipality to erect a fence around the installation for security purposes.

These pointless deaths could have been prevented if PLM exercised duty of care and erected a fence.

The DA extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

We call on the municipal manager to act now, before PLM’s indifferent approach to the safety of our community claims another life.
