CW: Corruption Watch responds to CPS claims of defamation

Corruption Watch (CW) today sent a letter to the attorneys representing Cash Paymaster Services (Pty) Ltd (CPS), Smit Sewgoolam Incorporated, in response to their letter issued on Friday, 10 March alleging defamation of CPS.

The letter from CPS’ attorneys outlines their client’s objections to certain statements made in the media by CW executive director David Lewis, which they believe inferred that CPS was involved in corrupt activities in procuring the contract to pay social grants on behalf of the South African Social Services Agency.

CPS demands that CW issues a public retraction of these allegedly defamatory statements by no later than Tuesday, 14 March 2017.  CW, in its letter of response released today, 13 March, has declined to retract the statements previously made.
