 Covid-19: South Africa records 5 668 new infections and 119 deaths

South Africa recorded 5 668 new cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, which represented a 14% positivity rate.

A further 119 Covid-19-related deaths have also been recorded, bringing the total confirmed fatalities to 92 649.

The total number of confirmed positive cases is 3 534 131.

Most of the new cases were recorded in KwaZulu-Natal, which accounted for 25% of new infections, followed by Gauteng with 23%. The Western Cape accounted for 20%; Eastern Cape 10%; Free State 6%; Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West 4% each; and Northern Cape 3%.

KwaZulu-Natal recorded 1 432 new cases on Tuesday, Gauteng 1 310 and the Western Cape 1 151.

As of Tuesday, 21 611 050 Covid-19 tests were conducted.

The cumulative number of recoveries is 3 298 672, with a recovery rate of 93.3%.

On Tuesday, 86 613 vaccine doses were administered, bringing the total number of vaccine doses administered to 28 508 583.
