 Covid-19: 2 411 new infections and 7 deaths recorded in South Africa

South Africa recorded 2 411 new Covid-19 infections on Thursday, representing a 7.8% positivity rate.

According to a statement by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), as of Thursday, the country recorded 3 667 560 laboratory-confirmed cases. Seven new Covid-19-related deaths were recorded in the last 48 hours, bringing the confirmed death toll to 99 018.

Cases breakdown:

Gauteng recorded 874 new cases on Thursday, the Western Cape 480 and KwaZulu-Natal 427.

As of Thursday, Gauteng recorded 1 190 420 cases, KwaZulu-Natal 650 989 and the Western Cape 638 576.

There were 82 new hospital admissions in the last 24-hour reporting cycle. As of Thursday, 3 075 people were in public and private hospitals for Covid-19.

South Africa conducted 22 994 945 cumulative tests, of which 30 818 were carried out in the last 24-hour cycle.

According to the Department of Health, 31 309 353 vaccine doses have been administered. Of those, 84 084 were administered on Thursday.

To date, 16 947 664 adults are fully vaccinated. Among children 12 and older, 1 554 261 vaccine doses have been administered.
