The Congress of South African Trade Unions(COSATU) in the Eastern Cape joins Premier Oscar Mabuyane in welcoming a R3 billion investment in the province by Stellantis Middle East & Africa Automobile Corporation.

This was preceded by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Stellantis Middle East & Africa Automobile Corporation, Industrial Development Corporation and the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition six months ago.

The manufacturing plant which will create a thousand (1 000) jobs through this investment, will be located in the Coega Special Economic Zone in Gqeberha. The 1 000 jobs will alleviate poverty in many households and will have positive spin-offs in the economy.

We are encouraged by the Eastern Cape Government’s clear intentions in promoting investments into our province. These efforts yielded R171 billion rand. This is the fifth global automotive manufacturer to find a home in the Eastern Cape.

We are further encouraged by the aggressiveness of the provincial government in attracting investment to the Eastern Cape. COSATU admires the courage displayed by Eastern Cape Provincial Government in making efforts to address red tape and turnaround time which throttles investment through a one stop investment shop to be opened soon in East London.
