Climate Change as a Human Rights Risk: A Resource for Health and Education Rights Activists in South Africa

SECTION27 has recently released a new report titled, “Climate Change as a Human Rights Risk: A Resource for Health and Education Rights Activists in South Africa.” This report, launched in Youth Month, focuses on the impact of climate change on children’s access to healthcare services and basic education. It explores the current state of children’s rights in the context of climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts and examines policies aimed at protecting children’s rights in a changing climate.

The launch event featured speakers from SECTION27, Equal Education Law Centre, Wits RHI and the Presidential Climate Commission. They shared their perspectives on the report and provided insights on how civil society can organise and collectively advocate for climate justice. The speakers represented both the health and education sectors and delved into the effects of the climate crisis on children and their rights to healthcare services and basic education.
