ActionSA welcomes the SA Human Rights Commission’s directives from its final investigative report into the Ngaka Modiri Molema District and Tswaing Local municipalities.

The report has unsurprisingly found that these municipalities have violated the rights of residents by denying them access to water and sanitation and by extension the basic right to dignity. 

Sewer spillages and a lack of basic municipal services, that include electricity at Agisanang, Jachtkraal Farm, Delareyville and Letsopa are commonplace. 

To date, ActionSA has consistently called for improved service delivery in the North West as well as offering solutions, however have been blocked by ANC politicians who continue to ignore the plight of ordinary citizens. 

We urge the MEC for Local Government Nono Maloi to ensure that our municipalities comply with the directives issued by the SAHRC that include the installation of a sufficient number of water user connections to supply a minimum quantity of potable water of 25 litres per person per day or 6 kilolitres per household per month to the residents at a minimum flow rate of not less than 10 litres per minute; within 200m of each of household.

As a party committed to social justice, we will monitor progress in compliance with the SAHRC’s report and its directives on an ongoing basis to ensure the residents of North West receive the services they deserve.
