The Democratic Alliance (DA) has won the majority vote in Nelson Mandela Bay because its residents wanted a change, opposition leader Mmusi Maimane said at the national results centre in Pretoria on Thursday.
“We have an opportunity to form a government in Nelson Mandela Bay… that will deliver for the people, that will create an economy and create jobs in Nelson Mandela Bay and ultimately cut corruption.”
He said the DA was not opposed to forming coalitions with other parties, except for the ruling party.
“The ones that are currently in government now we cannot work with because we can’t run elections saying change and then work with the current government as it stands.”
The IEC has not yet declared Nelson Mandela Bay.
