Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema has reappointed Situmbeko Musokotwane as finance minister following last month's election, a swearing-in ceremony for the new cabinet on the Southern African country's public broadcaster showed on Monday.

Musokotwane has served as finance minister of the copper-rich country since 2021.

During Hichilema's first term, he oversaw protracted debt restructuring negotiations after Zambia became the first African country to default during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Zambia is aiming to agree a new International Monetary Fund programme by the end of the year.
