The Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA) will be launching its Progressive Black Academics Programme in an effort to encourage the support and development of more young, black and progressive academics in South Africa. The YCLSA is concerned that as a country we are not producing enough progressive academics to teach our youth and society about the importance of building, consolidating and deepening the principles of non - racialism, non - sexism, democracy and equality.

Our insitutions of learning continue to produce hard - nosed Neo - liberals and counter revolutionary academics hellbent on driving a programme of regime change rather than consolidating our hard fought democractic transition post - 1994 and most importantly, outrightly challenging capitalism . Too many of our academics are dislocated and estranged from the struggles of the ordinary working class citizen.

More young people should take up careers in the academic sphere and seek to become progressive educators rather than abstract idealists. We need a quality, progressive teaching fraternity if we are to successfully realize the vision of a truly non - racial, non - sexist, democratic and prosperous South Africa for all who live in it.

The YCLSA will also be calling for the suspension of the R1 Trillion Nuclear Energy budget and the reallocation of this budget towards the funding of Free Higher Education for the Poor. The State must take a conscious decision to decommodify higher education so that higher education is treated as a common good and not a private privilege.

Media houses are humbly invited to cover the launch.

Launch of YCLSA Progressive Black Academics Programme will take place in Gauteng and Limpopo Provinces.
