Former Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene will join the University of the Witwatersrand’s (Wits’) business school as interim director from July 3.
He will serve in this position until a new Head of School is appointed next year, after which Nene will continue to serve as an Honorary Professor and a Scholar in Residence at the business school.
Nene is a resident adviser at the Thebe Investment Corporation, which has agreed with Wits that Nene take on this role.
Nene’s appointment follows the resignation of the former head of the business school earlier this year.
“His leadership, advice and insight at this pivotal time in our country’s economic trajectory will add value to the quality of courses, public lectures, debates and research that we offer,” said Wits Vice-Chancellor and Principal Adam Habib.
Nene stated that he was pleased to join the school to share his knowledge, experience and networks to empower and work with young individuals, academics and business leaders.
