In an extraordinary display of economic resilience, the Western Cape has emerged, yet again, as a powerhouse of job creation in South Africa following the release of the latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey statistics (QLFS) today. With an impressive influx of 305,000 jobs in the past year, the province now proudly stands responsible for 31.15% of the nation's net employment gains. This totals 979,000 positions since the third quarter of the previous year.
Beyond just numbers, the Western Cape has solidified its reputation as the region with the most favourable employment conditions, having the lowest unemployment rate across all provinces at 20.2% — a substantial decline of 4.3 percentage points over one year. This figure not only surpasses the national average by 11.7 percentage points but also underscores the province's strategic success in economic planning and execution.
Further testament to the Western Cape's commitment to workforce development is the expanded unemployment rate, currently the nation's lowest at 25.6%. This rate is not only 13.8 percentage points lower than that of Gauteng but also significantly more favourable than the North West province, which stands at double the Western Cape's rate.
These promising statistics have been officially recognised in the latest QLFS by StatsSA, evidencing the positive impact of the Democratic Alliance (DA)-led Western Cape Government's policies. The administration's dedication to fostering a business-friendly environment has catalysed private sector growth and employment opportunities, reflecting a strategic and effective economic approach.
The DA's governance in the Western Cape is synonymous with opportunity and prosperity, as evidenced by our unparalleled employment statistics. With the comprehensive roll-out of the 'Growth for Jobs' strategy, we are setting the stage for even more robust economic advancement.
In the Western Cape, a job signifies more than just income; it is a symbol of dignity and stability. The DA's governance model ensures that our residents enjoy a higher likelihood of employment, reinforcing our commitment to not just govern but to transform lives for the better.
