The Chambers Global rankings highlight Webber Wentzel's excellence and leading position in providing legal and tax advice. For over a decade, Webber Wentzel has remained the only firm to consistently secure the highest number of Band 1 category rankings and the highest number of ranked individuals in South Africa. Solidifying this is Webber Wentzel's Chambers Global 2024 rankings, where 76 of its lawyers have been individually ranked - 73 of whom are recognised in South Africa – across 26 practice areas, including 15 Band 1 rankings.

The firm's Real Estate practice has moved up the ranks from Band 2 to Band 1, demonstrating its expertise in complex commercial real estate, conveyancing, and notarial matters, that span various jurisdictions. Chambers notes that Webber Wentzel's Real Estate practice "stands out for its expertise and knowledge. The team shows the ability to find solutions, rather than just reciting the law".

Celebrating individual excellence

In addition, the firm's success extends beyond practice areas and recognises the talent of its lawyers. For the third consecutive year, Webber Wentzel's Senior Partner, Christo Els, has achieved the coveted title of 'Eminent Practitioner' in Capital Markets: Equity and Corporate/M&A. Meanwhile Dario Milo was named 'Star Individual' in Media & Broadcasting, reflecting his experience in handling constitutional challenges as well as tax, information law and data privacy-related disputes. Both Christo and Dario are the exclusive recipients of these prestigious honours in their respective categories.

Webber Wentzel's Manus Booysens and Stuart McCafferty both received 'Senior Statesperson' rankings for their decades of experience and trusted guidance in mining and disputes law matters in South Africa, respectively. Additionally, Sarah McKenzie has maintained her 'Up & Coming' ranking, demonstrating her talent and potential for future leadership, particularly noted for her work in commercial litigation and arbitration matters.

Additional highlights

The Chambers Global rankings welcome Ashford Nyatsumba, a partner in the firm's Investment Funds practice, who has been newly ranked in the Band 3 category. Ashford's ranking is a response to high praise from clients and peers for his depth of knowledge relating to the formation and establishment of Africa-focused private equity funds.

Several other lawyers have witnessed advancements in their rankings, demonstrating their expertise and commitment to client excellence. These include Khurshid Fazel (from Band 2 to Band 1), Peter Grealy (from Band 2 to Band 1), Vlad Movshovich (from Band 4 to Band 3), Lilia Franca (from Band 5 to Band 4), and Lisa Swaine (from Band 3 to Band 2.

The 2024 Chambers Global rankings are a testament to Webber Wentzel's commitment to providing exceptional legal advice in South Africa and across the African continent.
