A do-it-yourself approach is now more important than ever to save communities. This is AfriForum’s response to the news that the mayor of the Tshwane Metro, Cilliers Brink, was removed from office after the ANC and ActionSA joined forces, with the help of the EFF, to table a motion of no-confidence against him.

Earlier this month, AfriForum handed over a petition to the mayoral committee member and chairperson of the coalition committee in the Tshwane Metro, Jacqui Uys, as well as other representatives of the coalition, at the Metro Council’s headquarters, Tshwane House. This petition, which rejects the possibility of an ANC-EFF coalition, was signed by approximately 17 000 residents of Pretoria.

“Certain parties’ interests have prevailed today over the interests of the residents of Pretoria,” says Ernst van Zyl, Head of Public Relations at AfriForum.

“When party politics disappoint, only ‘we will do it ourselves’ remains as the way to cleaner, safer and better communities. The time is now for residents of Pretoria who want to make a real difference to join their nearest AfriForum branch,” concludes Van Zyl.
