In contrast to the declining service delivery experienced in many provinces, the Western Cape stands as a shining beacon of effective governance and sustained growth.
Since the last census conducted in 2011, the Western Cape's population has swelled to 7.4 million individuals, resulting in an additional 630,107 households throughout the province. Remarkably, despite this substantial population increase and the consequent demands on our local municipalities, the Western Cape continues to display impressive progress across various sectors.
Noteworthy achievements include:
•Despite being in a water-scarce region, the Western Cape has remarkably suffered the fewest water interruptions nationwide, with almost half the interruptions experienced by Gauteng.
•The Western Cape boasts an impressive 85.5% of households connected to a reliable water source, surpassing Gauteng's 75% connectivity rate.
•In terms of sanitation, the Western Cape leads with 93.9% of households having access to flushed toilets, also surpassing Gauteng.
•The Western Cape province provided the most waste removal services compared to other provinces.
These are just a handful of notable accomplishments, and the Western Cape Government has achieved remarkable successes in numerous other areas as well.
MPP Isaac SIleku said: “Despite the Western Cape receiving much less funding than other provinces like Limpopo, Kwazulu-Natal, Gauteng, and the Eastern Cape, we deliver much better services than all those other provinces.
Despite our rising population and pressure on local municipalities, the Western Cape Government continues to deliver more services than anywhere else in the country.
The DA-run Western Cape Government will continue doing more despite the financial constraints imposed upon the province by the ANC National Government.”
