The DA in uMgungundlovu District is elated to learn that two reservoirs and water lines supplying the Rosetta community will today be shut down for a clean-up operation (view notice here).

This after the DA raised the matter with the Infrastructure Portfolio Committee Chairperson, Sibongile Dlamini on 19 September 2022.

We received complaints and images of unconsumable muddy water coming out of taps (view pictures here and here). The pumps are not maintained and they break down often, the old reservoir is not cleaned and is full of mud. For over 12 years, residents in Rosetta have been paying for muddy water. A stone throw away is the Ntuli farm in which residents are dependent on water tankers that come only once a week.

Residents and Ratepayers Associations, have raised this matter with the municipality continuously, yet there have been no plans for a permanent resolve. Only after the DA enquired about this matter, did the municipality commit to clean the reservoir.

The DA has persistently called for a budget to address the aging infrastructure so residents could be afforded with the services that they are paying for, but the ANC-run uMgungundlovu has turned a deaf ear.

We will be monitoring the cleaning of these reservoirs and will hold the municipality accountable should residents not receive clean drinking water in their taps.
