The University of Johannesburg (UJ) congratulates all those who have been successful in completing the 2019 National Senior Certificate examinations and look forward to welcoming all who have been accepted for a programme of study in 2020 at the University.

An acceptance for further studies, whether at a university such as UJ or a technical and vocational education and training college, represents a significant milestone and is the lever to prosperous individuals, families, communities and nations.

“For UJ, every new student is a welcome addition to our UJ community of students and alumni who are inspired and empowered by our various programmes of study,” says UJ’s Registrar, Professor Kinta Burger. “This year, UJ is improving the face of our registration process by enhancing its virtual registration process with a Chatbot. As part of the digital transformation the 4th Industrial revolution is bringing, UJ’s Chatbot, provides instant answers to queries. In the lead up to the start of a new academic year prospective students do have questions relating to registration, courses, fees, accommodation and the like. The registration period, is undoubtedly a busy time for the University, and responding to this influx of questions quickly requires a lot of time and resource. We believe that the introducton of a UJ ChatBot will assist our digitally active prospective students,” said Prof Burger. The University has also extended its Call Centre (011 559 4555) for those who prefer to engage telephonically.

The University reminds all who have applied to and are interested in studying at UJ that the application, admission and registration process is entirely online. The University will review the status of all applicants based on their final Grade 12 results from January 6 to 9, 2020.

All applicants who have been accepted for a programme of study at UJ will receive official confirmation of their final admission status via email and SMS. “If applicants have not received an email or SMS by 9 January 2020, they should visit the UJ website (www.uj.ac.za) to verify their final application status. The procedures to follow, once accepted for a programme of study at UJ, are set out on the university website.

Prof Burger emphasised that no physical ‘walk-ins’ (late applications) will be accepted. The University’s late enquiry online system will be available via the website from 9-13 January 2020.

The 2020 intake comprises of approximately 10 500 first-year undergraduate students entering the University for the first time, making UJ home to approximately 50 000 students this year.
