As many North African countries gradually reopen their borders after months of closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic, authorities in Tunisia have announced new measures for arrivals from abroad.
Xinhua News Agency reported on Monday that the new measures were put in place after a number of new Covid-19 infections were recorded among returnees.
"These measures include the obligation to place all members of the same family coming from countries not classified on the 'green' or 'orange' list, including children under 12, in mandatory isolation," the government said in a statement.
According to the new measures, people arriving from a country on the orange list and those who did not carry out a lab test for Covid-19 will be held in quarantine for at least three days to allow the health ministry to carry out tests.
On Monday the health ministry also announced three more confirmed cases of Covid-19, bringing the total to 1 455 infections in Tunisia.
In its daily report on the epidemic, the ministry indicated that after carrying out 327 tests, including 51 follow-up tests, 12 came back positive, reported TAP News. The three new cases included one domestic case and two imported cases. There were nine positive tests for old cases still carrying the virus.
The latest data brings the total to 1 157 recoveries, 50 deaths, and 248 cases still carrying the virus who are receiving medical care, including seven hospitalisations, the health ministry added.
