Minister of Transport, Mr Joe Maswanganyi, will embark on a day-long road safety awareness and education campaign in Bizana on Thursday, 26 October 2017.
This activation takes place on the eve of the OR Tambo Centenary celebrations in Bizana and forms part of the Department’s October Transport Month (OTM) campaign.
During this campaign, the Minister will educate taxi operators, passengers, pedestrians and school learners about issues of road safety as part of government efforts to curb road fatalities and crashes.
The Minister will distribute bicycles to learners at OR Tambo Technical High School as part of the Department’s Shova Kalula programme. Shova Kalula is part of the learner transport programme which donates bicycles to learners who walk more than 3 km to school.
The Minister will be joined by the Deputy Minister of Transport, Ms Sindiswe Chikunga and the Department’s roads entities: Road Accident Fund (RAF), Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), Cross-Border Road Transport Agency (CBRTA), Road Traffic Infringement Agency (RTIA) and South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL).
