Transnet has appointed Ms Makano Mosidi, a leading information technology executive and business leader as Chief Information Officer, effective 1 June 2016, as the company’s digital drive gathers momentum. She will join the Group Leadership Team and will report to the Group Chief Executive in line with the company’s objective of ensuring that digitalisation is central to driving innovation efficiency and cost effectiveness across all operations. She is specifically tasked with enabling the Transnet business to standardise and rationalise the information technology environment in its railways, ports and pipelines business.
Digitalisation is one of the company’s main strategic thrusts as it accelerates the implementation of its Market Demand Strategy. Driving innovation and developing creative solutions to the company’s business challenges is central to this objective.
Ms Mosidi has considerable experience in the ICT sector. In addition to serving as Chief Information Officer for Middle East and Africa at one of South Africa’s leading and most innovative technology giants Dimension Data (Didata), she has extensive experience in the private sector, primarily IT consulting. She has worked at global technology solutions firm IBM, world-renowned business services and advisory firms Ernst & Young and Accenture, among others.
She also has in-depth knowledge of the public sector, having worked as the Chief Operating Officer and acting Chief Executive of State Information Technology Agency (Sita) between 2000 and 2004. As Public Sector Executive for the Middle East and Africa at Didata, she provided technology solutions for various state entities throughout the region.
Ms Mosidi’s appointment confirms Transnet’s attractiveness as an employer of choice among the highly-talented and experienced in the job market, while at the same time emphasising the success of the company’s talent management practices, especially retention and career progression.
Ms Mosidi, who started her career as a Maths and Economics teacher, holds a Bcom degree in Financial Accounting and Computer Science. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in commerce.
