The National Freedom Party welcomes the reconfiguration of committees in eThekwini Municipalities as announced by the African National Congress in the region today.

In particular we regard as a breath of fresh air an undertaking to promote the spirit of co-operation amongst political parties in the council. It is often stated that fresh air never gets old.

The NFP, a coalition partner in the municipality, is a party that was established to serve indigenous people – the downtrodden – especially those who live below the poverty line.

In line with the teachings of our departed leader President Zanele Magwaza-Msibi, the party will do what is in the interest of the marginalized residents of eThekwini.

Equally, we offer to promote her exemplary leadership in other municipalities.

We regard the appointment of the Deputy Mayor Cllr Cde Zandile Myeni as the Political Head and Chairperson of the new committee as a vote of confidence in the NFP. Our deployee is a seasoned leader who understands the importance of using an integrated approach in ensuring service delivery.

Although Cde Zandile Myeni represents the NFP in the council, she understands that as the Deputy Mayor she is an extension of the Office of the Mayor. She fully understands that her role is to complement the Mayor and augment the work of the council in service of all residents of eThekwini.

Therefore, complimenting rather than competing will remain her guiding principles.

We are stating these important matters to contextualize the importance the NFP is attaching to the appointment of Cde Zandile Myeni as the  Political Head and Chairperson of the Safety and Emergency Committee.

The NFP has noted interventions aimed at ensuring safety and security of residents and the business community as articulated by our coalition partner, the ANC.

As the new political head of the Safety and Security Committee, Cde Zandile Myeni will work with all stakeholders to ensure the implementation of these interventions.

Only a United Front Against Crime will help eradicate crime that has become entrenched in society.
