With the 2024 Paris Olympics in full swing, the DA congratulates all South African athletes who have thus far represented our country on the global stage.

Many of our inspirational sports stars performed exceptionally well, while others were nearly there.

The DA particularly wishes to congratulate double Olympic medalist Tatjana Smith for her marvelous swimming display in the 100m and 200m Breaststroke finals, our boys in green, the Blitzboks for bagging the bronze medal as well as fellow bronze-medalist mountain biker Alan Hatherly.

Following the 200m Breaststroke final last night, Tatjana has announced her retirement from the sport. She rounds up her Olympic career boasting an impressive medal tally of two Gold and three Silver. South Africa is immensely proud of you and thanks you for giving hope to aspiring swimmers and our country.

However, with the global spectacle reaching the halfway mark, Team SA athletes such as 100m sensation Akani Simbine, Prudence Sekgodiso, 800m medal hopeful, and Olympic swimming legend Chad le Clos could all secure further medals.

As a nation, let's stay glued to our screens and continue to cheer on our women and men!

To our athletes, the DA says: Pain is temporary, glory is forever.
