Government has called on all South Africans to become part of the movement for change, by working together as a united, non-racial and non-sexist society to honour the legacy of the late freedom icon Nelson Mandela.

Nelson Mandela International Day takes place on July 18, 2018, the birthday of the former Statesman, who would have turned 100 this year.

Government will be celebrating Madiba’s centenary this year with various events and initiatives.

In a statement released by Cabinet, government declared July Mandela Month.

Government will, on Friday, pay special tribute to Mandela by acknowledging one of his major concerns, jobs and young workers, when it launches the Wear South Africa initiative with the launch of the Nelson Mandela t-shirt in Durban.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation and the South African Clothing and Textile Workers Union have collaborated on the initiative.

The T-shirt, which is locally made, is available at leading retail stores and the profits from the sales will go to the Nelson Mandela Foundation to fund activities consistent with the South African icon’s vision and life.

Cabinet urges all South Africans to support the buy local campaign and to wear locally-made clothing with pride.
