South Africa Friends of Israel (SAFI) will be gathering on bridges around Johannesburg in celebration of the 74th birthday of Israel’s Independence on Thursday 5th of May. Those taking part in the gathering are members of the SAFI church network. SAFI is organising this show of support for Israel to acknowledge and celebrate the connection between Israel and South Africa.
Partnerships between Israel and South Africa hold much potential for helping address key challenges in our country, especially in the sectors such as water, agriculture, healthcare and innovation. Recently one such partnership helped create freshwater for the people of Mafikeng. Israeli investment in South Africa has the potential to contribute even more to job creation as well as help provide technology to support small businesses and entrepreneurs.
Yom Ha'atzmaut is the commemoration of Israel's independence day 74 years ago. The Jewish people have been connected to the land of Israel since the time of the Bible. It is a celebration of an indigenous people returning to their homeland.
